Both characters are round in the sense that they are dynamic through the story, the reader gathers personal information about the character through the dialogue and narration. Fortunado is a rich nobleman, but a man that has gained his status through fortune, not family lineage, like Montresor had. Montresor is a noble, but a noble of lower status then Fortunado his family was once a great noble family, but for an unknown reason became unimportant and forgotten. While the plot is relatively straightforward, the characters and setting are filled with mystery, making certain aspects of the story up for interpretation.
He then goes on to seal of the chamber with bricks, leaving Fortunado inside the chamber to die. Montresor leads the drunken Fortunado into his family catacombs and chains him to a wall of a chamber. The Cask of Amontillado revolves around the murder of Fortunado by a man named Montresor. To get the richest reading of a story of any type, it is important to pick up the subtle details the author adds into the text, as well as the plot.
Unlike poems, people don’t usually focus on the deeper meaning of a short story the focal point is usually the surface story. The form and content in Edgar Allan Poe’s short story, The Cask of Amontillado, works much differently than in poems.
